Alumni Come Back Home for Alumni Weekend

Hundreds of Oglethorpe University alumni returned to campus April 21-22 to celebrate the annual Alumni Weekend, recognize milestone reunions, honor alumni award winners, and rediscover campus traditions.

Alumni participated in many specialized events highlighting many aspects of the Oglethorpe experience, including lunch with current and retired faculty; alumni soccer and basketball games; a Socratic discussion with current students; an update on the university’s strategic priorities with President Ladany;  the Oglethorpe Black Alumni Network (OBAN) family reunion; the Quadfest Family Picnic (including dancing with Petey!); and a special Carillon Ceremony, during which alumni could ring the iconic bell atop Lupton Hall.

In addition, several Oglethorpe alumni were recognized during the 2023 Alumni Awards, Athletic Hall of Fame, and Golden Petrel Society Induction Ceremony. Each was celebrated alongside family and friends throughout the special celebration and reception.

The weekend culminated with the annual All Alumni Reunion Celebration under the stars on the Academic Quad. Class reunion gatherings, along with those of the OU Alumni Affinity Groups – including OBAN, OUtlet Alumni, Stormy Petrel Bar Association (SPBA), and OU Global Alumni – were all part of this big celebration. The quad was filled with laughter and camaraderie as alumni reconnected, celebrated, and danced the night away. 

The unwavering support from alumni in all initiatives related to advancing Oglethorpe is appreciated during events like this one and throughout the year. Thank you to those who participated in the Alumni Weekend Giving Challenge, who engaged in thoughtful discussions with students around campus, and who participated in the speed networking session with current students sponsored by OBAN.
