Oglethorpe University’s gifts-in-kind program integrates your and/or your organizations’ donated assets, products or services with our academic, facilities and student life programs. Often they represent a great opportunity for you, companies and other entities to employ their unique assets to support the university’s educational efforts. We define a gift-in-kind as a non-cash donation of a good or service. Oglethorpe accepts gifts-in-kind that support the fulfillment of its academic, museum, performing arts, athletic and facilities goals.

An endowment — a critical cornerstone of giving to support Oglethorpe University — is an investment in future generations of students and the future of the university. Once established, endowed funds provide both an immediate and future impact. The principal investment is held in perpetuity, with an annual allocation from the investment income supporting needs as designated by the donor. The intent of endowed funds is to have a consistent, long-term influence on the university’s mission through support for scholarships, research, faculty development, athletics, infrastructure (including salary support), or other programmatic funds.
Endowed funds are managed carefully and thoughtfully as long-term investments. For endowed funds to remain impactful, the investment return objective is to have returns that outpace the spending rate plus inflation. The university’s investment portfolio is diversified with investment allocations designed for long-term capital appreciation with appropriate cash flow that allows for the annual distributions as outlined in the endowment agreements. Endowed funds provide a relatively stable and consistent stream of income to support the university in perpetuity.
Oglethorpe is focused on responsibly stewarding and investing philanthropic gifts. In keeping with ongoing responsibility of monitoring the investment strategy and reviewing the long-term expected return, Oglethorpe remains committed to investing endowed gifts so their impact is meaningful and transformative for many years to come.

Envision your bench in a place on campus that bears special importance or memories for you or a loved one. You can give a meaningful gift to honor a loved one, your family, a milestone, a friend, a beloved professor, a special occasion, or your Petrel Pride. A personalized plaque will be placed on your bench in recognition of your generosity.
Claim your bench by making a one-time gift (amount dependent on location). Your donation allows you to have the bench installed, provides a plaque with wording of your choosing, and supports care of the bench.
