Empowering Futures: Stacey Chavis ’07 speaks with students about networking

The Student Alumni Association, supported by the Oglethorpe Alumni Association, works to fulfill the mission of building connections between current Oglethorpe students and alumni. Through this club, students learn more about our community and gain practical and marketable skills to prepare them for “life after Oglethorpe.”

During their first general meeting of the Spring 2024 semester, the Student Alumni Association invited alumna Stacey Chavis ’07 to speak about the importance of networking.

Stacey received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in politics from Oglethorpe. After her time at OU, she attended The Women’s Campaign School at Yale University before graduating with a master’s degree in the Study of Law from the University of Georgia School of Law. Now, Stacey works as the Managing Director of Campaigns Academy, but she has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Oglethorpe University and worked for all three branches of the federal government over time.

“I enjoyed being with the students to discuss the importance of networking,” said Chavis ’07. “I remember sitting in their same seats over 20 years ago and listening to alumni speak. I was able to benefit from the sage wisdom from the alumni and enjoyed paying it forward to the current students.”

Stacey left students feeling inspired after speaking about the benefits of having a mentor, encouraging students to be bold in their approach to connect with alumni on social media and in-person, affirming that rejection should not be taken personally, and highlighting how to leverage the Oglethorpe experience in comparison to other universities in Atlanta. The general meeting ended with Stacey reminding students to make the most of their time at Oglethorpe and to remain learning leaders.
