Alumni Board Gathers to Plan for 2023-24

by Charis Hanberry '88

The Oglethorpe University Alumni Board held their summer meeting on August 12, 2023 to outline plans for the year ahead. The Alumni Board meets quarterly, with a few executive board meetings sprinkled throughout the year. The two main focal points of this quarter’s session were alumni programming and hearing from Dr. Kathryn McClymond, our interim president.

The Board is already well into planning for Alumni Weekend 2024.  The board is especially interested in learning how alumni want to spend their time while on campus, how alumni are willing to participate with the events throughout the year, and how alumni want to hear from the Board.  The Oglethorpe alumni community has many varied opinions and wishes, so the Alumni Board is working hard to offer the the most fun and engaging experiences possible.  The more engaged alumni are, the more successful alumni support can be, and the Board wants to make it simple!

Dr. McClymond’s remarks to the Board focused on recruitment, retention, and advancement, and highlighted many of the key updates she shared with all alumni in her email communication in August. It is easy to see how these three priorities work together to solidify Oglethorpe’s presence in higher education. There are many exciting things on the horizon for the university!

If you have any suggestions, comments, or wishes about any of the above, please do reach out at [email protected].  See you on campus!
