Alumni Celebrate at Boar’s Head Evening of Holiday Enchantment

by Charis Hanberry ’88

Campus sparkled with twinkling lights, and the holiday vibe was strong at the Turner Lynch Campus Center for the Boar’s Head Evening of Holiday Enchantment on Friday, Dec. 1. Alumni representing classes from 1973 to 2023 and their families spent the evening catching up with friends they hadn’t seen since last year (or longer!).  Partygoers enjoyed a crepe station and mistletoe punch, took photos with Petey, and were able to meet recent additions to the OU staff and our new President, Dr. Kathryn McClymond.

Following the festive celebration, alumni moved into the Conant Performing Arts Center to welcome the 21 newest Omicron Delta Kappa members – the largest class of inductees – and enjoy Winter Wonderland, the 79th annual Boar’s Head Celebration. The concert included several beautiful pieces that truly showcased the University Singers and Chorale, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Symphony. Voices and instruments rose above the crowd, presenting – among others – Festival Gloria, Deck the Halls, Fantasia on Greensleeves, and crowd-favorite How to Train Your Dragon to a rapt audience. Throughout the program, the crowd lent their voices to sing-along pieces.

“Coming back to campus and seeing old friends (and new!) is the highlight of any event at Oglethorpe,” said Sherry Rosen ’85. “I have attended the Boar’s Head alumni reception several times, but this was my first time attending the celebration. The orchestra was absolutely brilliant. To me, this event symbolizes the beginning of the holiday season!”
