Award-winning writer Willie Perdomo to headline new Oglethorpe Out Loud poetry series

Oglethorpe will welcome award-winning writer and former State Poet of New York Willie Perdomo for the inaugural event for the Oglethorpe Out Loud series. Established recently by a gift from alumna Leah Hughes ’88, Oglethorpe Out Loud will bring esteemed poets to campus each year to increase Oglethorpe students’ exposure to contemporary creative writers.

Kristi Dosh ’03 and OU volleyball player Laney Higgins are trendsetters for women in sports marketing

Oglethorpe sophomore volleyball defensive specialist Laney Higgins connected with a national name, image, likeness (NIL) legal expert and former Oglethorpe cheerleader Kristi Dosh ’03. Both have become leaders in the NIL sports marketing industry, linked by their passion for sports and Oglethorpe University.

Corwin “Mickey” Metcalf ’63 retired after 20 years with Gardner-Webb University as a Professor of Law and Management. He lives in Walkertown, NC, with his wife of 35 years and two rotten Sheep-a-doodles.

Sean-Christopher Freeman ’07 was a choreographer of the Super Bowl LVIII half-time performance.

Andrew J. Tulowitzky ’07 was named Director of Athletics at The Walker School in Marietta.

Bradley Firchow ’19 and Dylan Harper-Firchow ’19 exchanged vows at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church on December 30, 2023, in the company of their family. After meeting in Core 202 and going on their first date as juniors at OU, they are excited to join the ranks of fellow Petrel Pairs.

Upcoming Campus and Community Events

“Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,” February 17 – March 3

Oglethorpe University and Actor’s Express are teaming up again to co-produce the West End smash hit musical, “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie,” the story of a teenager who must overcome his naysayers to become a fabulous drag queen. Nine Oglethorpe Theatre students have been cast in the production, as well as one alumna and 22 students in the crew. Learn more and get tickets >

OUMA Exhibition: “Contrapunto: Works by a Contemporary Latin American Artist Collective”, Feb. 16 – May 19 

The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art’s latest exhibition, “Contrapunto: Works by a Contemporary Latin American Artist Collective,” is an eclectic exhibition featuring the varied contemporary styles of six artists presenting a comprehensive depiction of Latin American culture, folklore and collective history.
