Kaiser-Deepak Leadership Scholarship Established

For Glenn Kaiser-Deepak ’20, establishing a scholarship to support students who are in the Student Government Association (SGA) felt like a meaningful way to give back to Oglethorpe University. The scholarship will support an Oglethorpe student of second-year standing or above who serves on the Student Government Association and demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities. The scholarship gift of $50,000 will establish an endowment fund, living on in perpetuity, and will be first awarded in Fall 2025.

Kaiser-Deepak was herself Student Body President, and she values this experience very much. She lived on campus for three years and was challenged by students she saw engaged in ways she wanted to emulate. The time spent on SGA, as well as Alpha Sigma Tau, Oglethorpe Ambassadors and others, all played a part in her leadership development.

“Days when I would have class, work, and then SGA obligations truly shaped who I am. The professional and personal lessons that taught me are invaluable,” she says. “I learned the value of a support system and the value of true, meaningful connections that are rare in the real world, but not in a community like Oglethorpe.”

The Kaiser-Deepak Leadership Scholarship is important because it will help students be able to follow their passion and relieve some of their financial burden. She says she hopes that students pursuing leadership positions in SGA will not have to pick between going for that leadership role or picking up a job to make ends meet. Kaiser-Deepak hopes this gift allows students to enjoy their time in SGA and grow without added financial stress.

“As a leader on campus, Glenn paved the way for others to follow, and now, as an alumna, she continues to lead through her generosity,” said Kathryn Henderson, senior director of alumni engagement and giving. “This scholarship will make a tremendous difference for Oglethorpe’s most dedicated student leaders, allowing them to fully engage with SGA.”

Kaiser-Deepak is also incredibly grateful to be in a place to be able to give with the support of the Deepak Raghavan Family Foundation. “I would not be in this position without my incredibly kind family,” she said. “My in-laws, Priya and Deepak, are extremely generous to support me in my passion for Oglethorpe. I would not be able to establish this scholarship without them, and for that I am so thankful.”
She hopes to meet the first student selected for this award next fall, and she will continue with her rewarding alumna experience.

“Seeing students learning and growing at Oglethorpe and seeing them make their difference and better the school that we all love is inspiring and makes me love Oglethorpe even more,” she said.
